AI for operations, quality and continuous improvement teams: from the procedure to the KPI, with AI.

An operations, quality or operational-excellence team uses AI for three things from the first week: documenting procedures and work instructions from notes, photos and recordings; analyzing process data (downtime, scrap, cycle times, complaints) in spreadsheets without programming; and speeding up root-cause analysis (5 whys, Ishikawa, 8D) with an assistant that asks, organizes the evidence and drafts the report. WASD Studio teaches it in a hands-on workshop over the team's real processes, in-company in CDMX or remote, from MX$35,000 + VAT per team of up to 15 people.

Operations has the data and the procedures; what it lacks is time

Procedures live in the supervisor's head, process data in twenty Excel files, and root-cause analysis gets rushed after the incident. AI doesn't fix the process, but it does remove the writing, sorting and cross-checking work that eats the team's hours today.

  • Outdated work instructions and OPLs because documenting takes longer than operating.
  • Downtime, scrap and complaint data nobody cross-checks because there's no analyst and no time.
  • 8D and RCA reports closed on the first plausible cause, not the root one.

Expected outcomes

Procedures and work instructions documented in hours, in your quality system's format.

Process data analysis (Pareto, trends, downtime) from Excel, without programming.

Faster, better-documented root-cause analyses, with AI as facilitator, not oracle.

What does an operations and quality team use AI for?

For the writing, sorting and cross-checking tasks around the process, not for running the process. This is what each person walks out able to do:

  • Document procedures, work instructions and one-point lessons (OPL) from notes, shop-floor photos and voice recordings, in your quality system's format.
  • Analyze process data in spreadsheets: clean, group, build a Pareto of downtime or defects, spot trends and explain the result in plain language.
  • Facilitate a root-cause analysis (5 whys, Ishikawa, 8D): AI asks, structures the evidence and drafts the report; the team supplies the facts.
  • Prepare KPI reports, shop-floor meeting minutes (tier meetings, gemba) and leadership presentations from raw data.
  • Internal audits: generate checklists from the standard or the procedure and classify findings.
  • Internal training: turn a procedure into a quick guide, quiz or onboarding material.

How do you run a root-cause analysis with AI without inventing causes?

By using AI as a facilitator and never as a source of facts. The method we teach has three rules: AI only works with the evidence the team gives it (data, photos, testimony, records), every proposed cause is flagged as a hypothesis until someone verifies it on the floor, and the final report is signed by the team, not the tool. With that, an 8D that took a week of writing comes together in one session: AI orders the whys, spots evidence gaps, proposes verifications and drafts the corrective actions in the client's format.

Which process data can be analyzed without programming?

The data you already have in Excel, CSV or exported from the ERP or MES: downtime records and their causes, scrap and rework by line or shift, cycle times, customer complaints, audit results and OEE indicators. AI cleans and groups the data, builds the Pareto, charts trends and explains what changed; the team validates against what it saw on the floor. What it doesn't do: replace statistical process control or decide for you. We also teach how to spot when a result doesn't add up and you need to go back to the data.

How do we protect plant data during the workshop?

With the same rules as every workshop we run: a confidentiality agreement when working with internal documents, no sensitive data in public models without consent (anonymized or sample data instead), and practice on the business accounts your IT team has already approved when they exist. Part of the workshop is precisely learning what to share with an AI and what not to: process parameters and formulas, for instance, are treated as restricted information.

Which format fits an operations department?

The Full Workshop (8 hours) is the recommended starting point: it leaves time to work with the department's real procedures and data and delivers the team's prompt library (work-instruction, downtime-analysis and 8D templates) plus a follow-up session two weeks later. The Adoption Program (4 weeks) is for implementing workflows in the process, such as the weekly KPI report or continuous procedure documentation, with follow-through during the month. The Essential Workshop (4 hours) gets a team starting from zero level.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does it work if our data lives in Excel or comes out of SAP?

Yes. The workshop works with what you already export: spreadsheets, CSV files and ERP or MES reports. Nothing gets integrated during the workshop; you learn to analyze and explain that data with AI, and if you want to automate the flow, the Adoption Program implements it.

Can the AI read our current procedures?

Yes, under a confidentiality agreement and on the accounts your company approves. They're used for two things: updating them or converting them to another format (work instruction, checklist, quick guide), and as a base so the AI respects your terminology when documenting new procedures.

Which tools do you work with?

The ones your company has already approved: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot for text and spreadsheet data analysis, and their image generators for training material. We are tool-agnostic and choosing with criteria is part of the workshop.

Does it work for shop-floor supervisors, not just engineering?

Yes. Exercises are built by role: supervisors document and report; quality engineers analyze data and facilitate RCA; continuous improvement standardizes templates and workflows. No technical profile or prior AI experience required.

How many people per workshop and how much does it cost?

Up to 15 people per team, from MX$35,000 + VAT (Essential), MX$65,000 + VAT (Full, the recommended one for operations) or MX$160,000 + VAT (Adoption Program). From 16 to 20 people we add MX$1,500 + VAT per person; above 20 it's split into two cohorts.

Do you issue a DC-3 or certification?

We issue a certificate of participation. We are not a registered training agent or a certifying body, so we don't issue a DC-3 or official certification.
